Display Graphics Printing with white ink

We can print with white ink! White ink creates a whole new level of flexibility for wide format printing.

  • Window graphics – a clear self-adhesive vinyl with white ink in the design
  • Display boards –  naturally coloured materials such as cardboard or black Foamex
  • Art presentations – printing on to acrylic using white ink to create unusual effects
  • Labels - self cling or self-adhesive labels for glass or surfaces using white effects

How to use white ink

Spot colour white: this is using white in specific artwork applications for example under a logo on a non-white surface to ensure the logo colour is accurate to the brand i.e. it creates the effect of a white backing for the full colour printing.

Over printing white: this is a whole layer of white used to back up a full colour image printed on a clear material such as acrylic. The coloured image would be printed in reverse on the back of the acrylic and then viewed through the front of the acrylic. The white layer is applied to the back. This white ink layer ensures the full colour image is bright and punchy. The alternative is having any light shining on the images making the image appear washed out.

Under printing white: this option is the laying down an ink layer of white under an image on a non-white surface and then printing the full colour image on top to achieve accurate colours. This is mainly used when printing on non-white materials. As part of the graphic design one technique is to leave non-white areas in the design so the natural material can be seen. Ideal when you would like the grain of a wood for example to show through.

Combination white printing: amazingly our printer is able to print 3 separate elements of an image simultaneously. This is particularly suitable for double sided images on clear materials for example acrylic. This equates to printing a 4-colour layer direct to the acrylic surface, then a layer of white on top of this and finally another layer of the full colour image on top.
