A record-breaking crowd and a thrilling rugby spectacle – what a night for student sport in Bath. We were proud to be match sponsors of this year’s University of Bath Anniversary Game, which saw a capacity crowd of more than 9,000 fans pack into The Recreation Ground for a pulsating BUCS Super Rugby clash between the University of Bath men’s 1st XV and Exeter.

A Record-Breaking Occasion

The South West derby more than lived up to expectations, with both sides delivering an incredible display of skill, passion, and determination. In a game that ebbed and flowed from start to finish, Bath were edged out 38–35 in a dramatic finale that had the crowd on their feet until the very last second.

Bath fought back from an early deficit to lead 35–25 with just 10 minutes remaining, thanks to five outstanding tries and pinpoint kicking from Will Roue, who maintained his flawless conversion record for a third consecutive match. However, a late Exeter surge saw the visitors snatch victory in the closing stages, securing the Anniversary Game trophy after one of the most gripping contests in recent memory.

Celebrating Sport and Community

The trophy presentation was made by former Wales international Nicky Robinson, a guest of ours on the night, alongside Rhys Harrington, Managing Director of Colour Studios and the Dragon Group.

Speaking after the match, Bath co-captain Max Pearce reflected on the narrow defeat:

“It’s a tough one to take but fair play to Exeter – they really brought it to us and it was a great game. We can take a lot from this and come back stronger.”

Centre Will Roue added:

“It was another incredible game to be part of. The crowd was unbelievable – it was difficult to hear yourself think because it was so loud. A massive shoutout to the fans for their support.”

More Than a Match

Organised by The SU Bath, the Anniversary Game has become one of the standout fixtures on the University of Bath sporting calendar, celebrating student achievement and community spirit. This year’s match not only delivered exceptional rugby but also set a new attendance record, highlighting the growing passion for student sport in the city.

We were delighted to play a part in this milestone event, helping to showcase the best of university rugby and the vibrant sporting culture that defines Bath.

Looking Ahead

We’d like to extend our congratulations to both teams for an unforgettable performance and to everyone who made the evening such a success. Here’s to more moments that inspire, energise, and bring our communities together through sport.
